Serious Eats is now more than seven years old, and like most seven year-olds we grow and change in spurts. Over the next few weeks and months, we're going to be making some changes at Serious Eats to focus on what we do best: helping you discover and create great food experiences.
We've come to realize that many of the features we've built into the site or have experimented with over the years are not living up to their full potential because the site's audience and scope has been growing by leaps and bounds, while technology has also been progressing on the web. So we're tweaking a few things, all with the idea of giving our readers the best possible experience.
All of the individual sites you know and love—New York, Drinks, Slice, A Hamburger Today, Chicago, and Sweets—are rolling back into Serious Eats itself. We'll still cover those topics in the same spirited way, but everything is going to live on what we like to call the United States of Serious Eats, making it easier than ever to get at all the original content you love.
Other parts of the site, like Talk and Photograzing, won't live on as you know them. Instead, we're excited to connect with with all of you through social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. Why social media sites? They're custom-built for sharing and have technological advantages over static pages on a website, and we want to take advantage of them to make connecting Serious Eaters with each other easier and more dynamic than ever before. As for comments on posts and your user profiles, don't worry, those are staying as-is.
Those are the changes you'll notice first, but they are only the beginning. In a few months, we're going to be unveiling a new design, which will make it easier for you to find and share everything you need, whether it's a well-tested recipe or an opinionated restaurant review, at your desk or on the go. There will inevitably be some growing pains in all this, but we are certain that the end result will be a better Serious Eats for everyone.
