Breville Bambino Plus Espresso Machine
In all our espresso machine testing, we were the most impressed with the Breville Bambino Plus. Its super small footprint is capable of pulling great espresso compared to machines three times its size (and cost), and its automatic steam wand produces excellent microfoam capable of pouring latte art. It’s remarkably easy to use and we think both beginners and pros will love it.
OXO Brew Conical Burr Grinder
Rarely on sale is our longtime favorite coffee grinder for most people. It's easy to adjust its grind settings (just twist the top) and it has a simple start/stop operation. As we said in our review, "This is about as inexpensive as a burr grinder gets before the grind quality really starts to fall off, making it a good starter grinder for most home-brewed coffee drinkers."
Breville Barista Express Impress Espresso Machine
When we tested espresso machines, the Barista Express Impress was the only espresso machine that, well, impressed us with its built-in grinder, automatic coffee portioning system, and assisted tamping lever that delivered the same espresso puck every time. It's ideal for beginners or anyone who doesn't want to fuss much when making a latte—and it's currently 20% off.
Gaggia Classic Pro
Though it may be small, the Gaggia Classic Pro is designed like a professional espresso machine. In our tests, it pulled the best espresso shots, and with a few tweaks, it was even better. It might not be the easiest espresso machine to use, but if you want pro-quality on a budget, the Gaggia is the way to go.
Fellow Ode Gen 2 Coffee Grinder
The Fellow Ode Gen 2 is our favorite coffee grinder for pourover brewing because of its precision grinding, but there are lots of other things to love about it. It has an ionizer in the grind chute to eliminate static cling (keeping your counters clean), there's a grind chart under the lid to help you ballpark the right setting, and it can sense when it's finished grinding and shuts off automatically. The only downside is its higher price point, making it a great deal to snag.
Hario V60 Mugen Coffee Dripper
We really liked the flatter walls of the Hario V60 Mugen Coffee Dripper, which created a more forgiving brew speed while still brewing great coffee in our pourover coffee maker tests. It’s also extremely stylish, and the ceramic cone was easy to keep clean, to boot.
OXO 12-Cup Coffee Maker
While we haven’t had a chance to fully test this newer model, it shares the same brewing technology as the OXO 8-Cup Coffee Maker and we’ve got high hopes for this larger capacity brewer. It features a similar by-the-cup brewing option as the 8-cup, so you’re not tied to just brewing full batches. It’s also programmable.
Cafflano Kompresso
The Cafflano Kompresso was our favorite hand-powered device for making espresso-style coffee at home. It’s much less expensive than a mechanical espresso machine, and now that it’s on sale, it’s a great deal to snag.
Coffee Gator French Press Coffee Maker
The Coffee Gator French press had excellent thermal stability, which made it a budget pick in our French press and cold brew maker reviews. It’s a sturdy brewer with a dual filter system that makes a great cup of coffee. Plus, it’s available in four different colors.
OXO 9-Cup Coffee Maker
The 9-cup coffee maker from OXO is the only brewer we recommend from our testing that has a programmable timer. While we suggest grinding fresh right before you brew, sometimes you just need a coffee maker that wakes up before you do. It heats water to the ideal temperature (200ºF) and can finish brewing a full pot in under seven minutes, so even if you do forget to set it the night before, you're never waiting too long for a fresh cup.
OXO Good Grips Cold Brew Coffee Maker
If you're intrigued by the OXO's Compact Cold Brew coffee maker but go through coffee lightning fast, their Good Grips Cold Brew Coffee maker has a lot of the same features, but with a 32-ounce capacity. It has the same shower head for easily saturating coffee, and has a convenient switch for when you're ready to start filtering.
OXO 8-Cup Coffee Maker
We love how intuitive this coffee maker is to use, and brewed some of the best-tasting coffee in our tests. It features a powerful boiler for high brew temps and can brew a full batch in under six minutes. It also has a smaller filter basket for smaller brews and a spray head that even covers the coffee. Plus, this is a great deal: it's $64 off.
Technivorm Moccamaster Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker
Serious Eats staffers have more than 25 combined years of experience using the Technivorm Moccamaster, and it’s as sturdy as a brewer can get. With a high-powered copper heating element that heats water to the ideal brew temperature in less than 40 seconds, it also brews great coffee.
Breville Barista Touch Impress Espresso Machine with Grinder
For the ultimate in espresso automation, while maintaining shot quality, the Barista Touch Impress has the same automatic dosing and assisted tamping as the Express Impress, only with upgraded Baratza burrs, 30 grind settings, an automatic steam wand, and a touch screen that walks you through the entire drink making process. It’s a feature-loaded but pricey machine, making it a great snag at $300 off.
Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine
It’s not our favorite Breville espresso machine with a built-in grinder, but it’s definitely the most affordable. The Barista Express has 16 grind settings and a PID temperature controller that keeps brewing water at the exact temperature it’s programmed to. And while it’s not cheap by any means, it’s definitely less expensive than buying a standalone espresso machine and grinder—even more so on sale. If you’re curious about espresso and hesitant to go big on your first purchase, the Barista Express is a great option.
Breville Barista Pro Espresso Machine
The Barista Pro gives you full control over your shot-pulling with over 30 grind settings and a digital timer to program the amount of coffee it doses. It’s a well-priced machine from Breville’s lineup and perfect for anyone who wants to tinker with their espresso while having the convenience of an all-in-one machine.
