The Best Wooden Cutting Board
Black Friday Deal: Spend $250 or more and receive a free cheese board ($70 value)
I've had my eye on our favorite wooden cutting board from The Boardsmith board since I started working at Serious Eats a year ago. It's customizable (feet, no feet, juice well, no juice well), thick, and Daniel's been a fan of it for years which is all the recommendation I really need. And since the wooden cutting board I use most developed a split, I will (will!) be buying a The Boardsmith board if it's on sale for Black Friday. Fingers crossed! — Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm, Commerce Editor
A Fancy Waffle Maker
Normally $200, Now $146
I’m a big breakfast person, but I don’t always love going out for brunch and spending money on overly-priced dishes that I can easily make at home. So when I moved into a new apartment this past summer, I decided to treat myself to this All-Clad Belgian waffle maker, and it did not disappoint. It’s something I use much more than I thought I would since it churns out the lightest, crispiest waffles—especially when I use Stella’s recipe. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and—contrary to what some may think—not a unitasker! You can make everything from hash browns to churros and mac and cheese. I’m particularly eager to make these waffled mashed potatoes with the leftovers I have from the holidays. —Yasmine Maggio, Associate Editor
The Best Citrus Juicer
Normally $25, Now $20
As a cocktail aficionado, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on our winning manual juicer; it'll make squeezing fresh pressed juice for my signature whiskey sour a cinch. It's effective, easy to clean, and will ensure I won't spray lemon juice everywhere (which I'm prone to do with my current manual juicer). — Grace Kelly, Associate Commerce Editor
A Staff-Favorite Dutch Oven
Normally $200, Now $150
While I wouldn't give up living in New York City for anything, one of the downsides of apartment life is that my wife and I have a stove so small it's effectively impossible to fit pots and pans onto all four burners at the same time. That's one of the reasons I love my Staub cocotte so much. Beyond the fact that it's a remarkably beautiful product from a long respected company—and will last more than a lifetime if properly cared for—it also has a small enough footprint that it fits perfectly on my minuscule stovetop. The tall, 5-quart model has a capacity that belies its petite diameter, making it perfect for space-limited cooks like myself. —Jacob Dean, Updates Editor
A Great Saucepan
Normally $119, Now $101
Because of my work (and definitely not because of a compulsive shopping habit), I have about as robust and elite a cookware collection as anyone could want. Multiple enameled Dutch ovens; two of each common size of cast iron skillet (much of it vintage); carbon steel skillets from large to small; two woks; heavy copper pots and pans that I could sell for an early retirement; fancy stainless steel up the wazzoo; not to mention specialty pieces like a Moroccan tagine, Japanese donabe, and clay Peruvian olla. But somehow I've continued to live with the same 2-quart saucepan my mom bought me for my freshman-year college dorm 26 years ago. On the one hand, it still works, though its screw-on handle comes loose from time to time, and its bottom-clad design means it's more prone to scorching in the corners and on the sides. I think this year it's time to finally upgrade to something fully-clad with a solidly riveted handle. Though...maybe I should still keep the other, in case I need both. — Daniel Grizter
One of Our Favorite Coffee Makers
Normally $200, Now $160
While our old 12-cup drip coffee maker had served us well over the past decade (!) for the past year or so the coffee it's produced has tasted bitter, burned, and sometimes just plain weird. Our writeup of the OXO Brew 8-Cup Coffee Maker convinced me to change things up. It's a beautiful machine: quiet, compact, and rather elegant looking. But more important than its looks, the coffee it makes is significantly better than what we were getting out of our old brewer. — Jacob Dean
Excellent Dish Cloths
Normally $25, Now $18
Are these rather inexpensive and could I certainly buy them when they're not on sale? Absolutely, but I love a few bucks off. I'm constantly trying to become more sustainable, and have been meaning to buy Swedish dish cloths (a cross between a paper towel) since we wrote about them earlier this year. — Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm
Our Longtime Favorite Stainless Steel Skillet
Normally $109, Now $93 at madeincookware.com
I've been testing gear professionally since 2018 but, uh, don't own a stainless steel skillet? Cast iron and carbon steel of course, but strangely nary a stainless steel pan can be found in my kitchen or basement gear storage! If it's on sale, I want our favorite model from Made In. — Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm
A Powerful Stand Mixer
Normally $600, Now $430
I bake six to eight loaves of bread a week, have three different go-to pizza style recipes, and still mix everything by hand. Our smaller stand mixer has been a trooper, but its apartment-sized capacity just can't handle my amateur bakery aspirations. Ever since this review went up, I've been coveting a bigger mixer, so why not go for the gold? I've missed a few right-time-right-place stand mixer sales in the past, but this Black Friday I'm ready to pull the trigger on the best of the best. — Jesse Raub, Commerce Writer
Our Longtime Favorite Chef's Knife
I use my chef’s knife for almost everything, and it remains the easiest, most low-maintenance anything I reach for in my kitchen daily. What a joy it is to destroy many, many ingredients for the same soup and only have to clean my knife and a cutting board at the end of it all. Plus, the white handle is cute. —Tess Koman, Senior Editorial Director
