Cole Hersey
I am a writer and illustrator based in the Bay Area. Not only am I a former dedicated barista of six years, I also have worked in the food industry for over a decade, from working in kitchens to selling wines and cheeses. While I am no longer serving drinks in the morning, my interest and obsession with coffee hasn’t waned a bit.
Experience
My name is Cole Hersey (he/him). I am a journalist, writer, and illustrator based in Oakland, with featured environmental journalism pieces in the Wales Arts Review, North Bay Bohemian, Bay Nature, Earth Island Journal, and elsewhere. I have edited for publications such as Poetry Flash, West Marin Review, Quiet Lightning, and Earth Island Journal. My fiction and poetry have appeared in literary magazines across the country and abroad, such as Parenthesis.
My art has been used and exhibited throughout California, in spaces such as Bartavelle Coffee and Wine Bar and Gospel Flats show space in Bolinas, California, the Quickest Flip curatorial series, and Bass and Reiner.
As someone constantly in and out of my studio due to my work, I find that a good routine for coffee-making is essential. While I’m always tinkering with new ways of making coffee, what drives me is a desire to make beautiful and consistent coffee at home, experimentations that I’m excited to bring to the Serious Eats team!
