Souza joined America's Test Kitchen in 2008 as a test cook. His role grew and he was the executive editor for the James Beard Foundation Award-nominated Cook's Science and became editor-in-chief of Cook's Illustrated in 2017. He frequently contributes to America's Test Kitchen radio and television shows as an on air science expert.

Dan Souza wrote the Chip Faced! column for Serious Eats. He went to Hungary after graduating from college. While he was there to teach English, he began working at a local restaurant on the weekends. When he returned home, he continued working part-time at restaurants and became convinced a career in food was his calling.

After graduating first in his class from the Culinary Institute of America, he joined America's Test Kitchen in 2008 as a test cook. His career there took off, and he is now the editor-in-chief of Cook's Illustrated and an on air cast member of America's Test Kitchen.
