Experience
David Kover is a trained psychologist, food writer, and self-described Brooklyn bagel snob. In 2012, he decided to stop complaining about inferior bagels and co-founded the artisan bagel business Schmendricks with his wife Dagny and two neighbors. Selling their hand-crafted Brooklyn-style bagels from makeshift pop-ups in San Francisco’s Mission District, Schmendricks quickly developed a loyal following and caught the attention of local and national media outlets, including The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, Bloomberg, and Sunset Magazine. San Francisco Magazine and San Francisco Chronicle named Schmendricks the “Bay Area’s Best Bagel.” The partners discontinued their bagel business in 2013. David has written about pizza and chronicled his experience starting a bagel business for Serious Eats.
