Espro French Press

Serious Eats / Ashley Rodriguez

One of the easiest ways to brew coffee is with a French press: add your coffee and water, set a timer, and plunge when ready. The biggest downside? The grit. One of the hallmarks of French press brewing is the metal mesh filter, which allows more sediment and coffee oils into your brew than a paper filter. While some people love the heavier body of French press brews, they can also be sludgy and gritty. That’s why we love the dual fine-mesh filters of the Espro P3 French press

Why It Won Our Review

When we tested French presses, the coffee brewed with the ESPRO P3 had brighter, more vibrant flavors than the competition. This was due to its dual fine-mesh filter basket and silicone ring, which ensured no coffee grounds made it into the final brew. And since you don’t have to worry about grounds getting through the fine mesh and silicone ring, you can tinker with grind size—even the finest of grinds will still be thoroughly filtered out. We also really liked the ESPROs glass body because it’s easy to clean and doesn’t hold onto coffee oils the way stainless steel can. Overall, it’s an affordable French press that is great for folks who like to tinker with their brew (or folks who don't want a single ground in their coffee).

FAQs

How do you brew with an ESPRO French press?

ESPRO French presses work just like any other French press: add your coffee, add your water, start a timer, and plunge when your brew time is up. The ESPRO dual fine-mesh filter has a silicone ring that traps all the coffee ground beneath it, creating more vibrant coffee flavors.

Can an ESPRO French press go in the dishwasher?

While you can run the glass body of the ESPRO P3 through the dishwasher, you should handwash the filter using a coffee detergent like Biocaf. Coffee oils are hard to remove from metal and plastic with regular dish soap, so the dishwasher is unlikely to clean the filter as well as coffee detergent can.
