Erik Lombardo at Maialino in NYC introduced us to this classic cocktail, which is basically an Old Fashioned sweetened with maraschino liqueur (we used Luxardo) and fancied up with a big spiral of an orange twist. "The earthy funk of the liqueur adds a wonderful depth to the bourbon, a perfect introduction to cold weather," says Lombardo.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon

  • 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur, such as Luxardo

  • 2 dashes orange bitters

  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

  • Garnish: large orange twist

Directions

  1. Place a large ice cube in an old fashioned glass. Add bourbon, maraschino, orange bitters, and Angostura and stir until chilled, about 15 seconds.

  2. Garnish with orange twist and serve.
