Irvin's first cookbook "Marbled, Swirled, and Layered" was chosen as one of the best baking cookbooks of 2016 in the New York Times as well as featured in Entertainment Weekly, O Magazine, Library Journal and Booklist. His blog Eat the Love has been nominated by Saveur magazine in the category of Best Baking Blog 2011, as well as IACP-nominated for best recipe blog 2016. Irvin won the IACP photography contest Best in Show in 2013.

Irvin has always considering himself a storyteller. He earned a B.F.A. in Painting and a B.A. in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis and later went back to Washington University to do post-bachelor’s work in graphic design. After working as a graphic designer and art director for over 15 years, he transitioned to creating food content in 2010 with his blog Eat the Love.

Irvin has taught cooking classes and workshops at various outlets, including Macy's Basement, San Francisco Cooking School, and the Pinterest Headquarters. He’s spoken at various events including IACP’s annual conference, Pinterest Knitcon and BlogHer. In his spare time, he makes small-batch ceramics which he uses to photograph his food on, as well as travels with his husband. Their current goal is to visit every single United States National Parks.


Irvin's best piece of cooking advice: 

Taste and add salt to the dish as you cook. If the dish tastes flat, it usually needs salt to enhance the flavor.
