The Japanese Cocktail, curiously made with mostly French ingredients, is like an Old Fashioned with a rich and nutty twist. This classic cocktail included in Jerry Thomas' Bar-Tender's Guide in 1862.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cognac

  • 1/2 ounce orgeat

  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Lemon peel for garnish

Directions

  1. Fill a mixing glass half full with ice. Add cognac, orgeat, and bitters. Stir well.

  2. Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

  3. Twist lemon peel over the drink and drop in as a garnish.
