Jed Portman
Jed Portman is a Kansas City-based writer and the creator of Midwesterner, a newsletter about heartland food and drink. He has been writing for Serious Eats since 2012 and has also been published in Field & Stream, Men's Journal, and Garden & Gun, where he was an editor from 2012 to 2017
Experience
Jed grew up on the famous fried chicken at his family restaurant, The Golden Lamb, which is the oldest continuously operating business in Ohio. After a stint at the Southern lifestyle magazine Garden & Gun, covering biscuits, bourbon, and barbecue, he moved home to Cincinnati and started Midwesterner, a newsletter about heartland food and drink. He currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jed has contributed to three of G&G's bestselling books, "The Southerner's Handbook: A Guide to Living the Good Life" (2013), "The Southerner's Cookbook: Recipes, Wisdom, and Stories" (2015), and "S is for Southern: A Guide to the South, from Absinthe to Zydeco" (2017), and has written for publications ranging from Lucky Peach to Men's Journal to Field & Stream.
