Experience

Megan Lloyd is food and travel journalist who wrote her first Serious Eats article while trapped in her tiny Spanish apartment during the pandemic. Though originally from Houston, Texas, she specializes in all edible and drinkable Spanish things. Her guiding principle is to use storytelling to give dignity to the unknown cooks and artisans around the world.

After graduating with a hospitality degree from the University of Denver, where she took just as many accounting classes as food and wine courses, Megan spent many years in kitchens and dining rooms of Denver restaurants. She eventually weaseled her way out of the industry, but a lifelong obsession with food, a Spanish partner, and a love for storytelling led her into a career in food and travel writing. She pays the rent by developing recipes, producing marketing content, and sharing some of the best ways to travel and eat through Spain.

In addition to Serious Eats, Megan's work has been featured in TASTE, Eater, and Bon Appétit.

What's your desert island food?

"Nachos, homemade tortilla chips required. They're a texturally perfect and flexible canvas for all flavor cravings. They can handle just about any seasonal vegetable my body will need to survive. And they are delicious no matter the temperature. Spear-caught fish and coconut nachos? Wilson and I are into it."

What's your favorite condiment?

"Cream cheese. Its possibilities know no bounds, straddling sweet and savory like a graceful tightrope walker. Cream cheese brings life to the lifeless. It's the base for any type of dip, it makes the dry desert an oasis, it calms the over-spiced, it glorifies baking, and it covers all your cooking sins. Name one thing that doesn't taste great with cream cheese. I dare you."
