Michael Harlan Turkell is an acid freak, fishmonger, wood fire fanatic, pizza zealot, and a beer and food pairer.
He's a once-aspiring chef and now an award-winning food photographer and writer. Michael has photographed many prominent chefs’ cookbooks, co-authored a few, and even wrote one of his own, ACID TRIP: Travels in the Word of Vinegar (2017). Turkell also hosted The Food Seen podcast on Heritage Radio Network for nearly a decade, in addition to 16 episodes of Modernist BreadCrumbs, and Season 3 of Food52's Burnt Toast.
He won an IACP Award for ACID TRIP and was twice nominated for James Beard Foundation Awards as a photographer and writer. He's a two-time Stitcher finalist for Best Food + Drink podcast.
What's your desert island food?
"Otter pops, assuming it's warm there (after all, it's a desert island?!), but would also need a freezer."
What's your favorite condiment?
"Kewpie mayonnaise—it's by far better than other mayos, and I have a soft spot for a squirt bottle."
