Experience

Michelle No is a culture and food writer based in Berlin and New York City. She became a food writer after pointing out this very site's lack of Korean food coverage, and has since made it her mission to chronicle the meals (and lives) of underreported communities. Michelle has worked as a staff writer at Thrillist, a food writer at BuzzFeed, and head chef of her personal over-cluttered kitchen. She speaks Korean, Italian, and a bit of German if you speak slowly enough.

What's your desert island food?

"A giant patbingsoo (Korean red bean shaved ice) topped with condensed milk, fresh strawberries, banana slices, crumbled wafers, mini mochi, a scoop of plain vanilla ice cream, and, of course, tender shaved ice that melts at a lick's touch."

What's your favorite condiment?

"Mayonnaise—it's the perfect base condiment to mix with whatever you want, and makes roasted vegetables (my go-to dinner side dish) taste like a treat."
