Shiso is an herb that adds a great, unexpected flavor to salads. . Vicky Wasik

Like mint, basil, thyme, and rosemary, the herb shiso is a member of the mint family. Its flavor is grassy, peppery, and fresh with faintly bitter character that makes it a great counterpart to sweeter food and drink. Here, it's combined with crunchy-sweet raw corn, spicy radishes, tangy feta cheese, juicy tomatoes, and crisp sliced cucumber, with some sliced shallots for a little extra bite. Feel free to change up the proportions or ingredients: it's the shiso that makes this salad special.
