Experience

A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Seoyoung Jung has worked in some of New York's most prestigious kitchens and contributed her extensive knowledge of Korean cuisine to Serious Eats. In 2011, she moved from New York back to her home city of Seoul, South Korea; there, she began work in R&D for the fermented foods industry and earned a certification from the Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine.

Along with the writer Sonja Swanson, Seoyoung also co-founded Bburi Kitchen, a blog dedicated to researching traditional Korean ingredients and cooking techniques, as well as connecting with farmers all over South Korea.

Seoyoung has been cooking for people since she was 9 years old; her more formal journey into the culinary world, however, began when she spent a year volunteering in England and started regularly cooking for friends in her spare time. A year later, she made the leap to her new career by attending culinary school in the United States.
