This refreshingly bitter aperitif cocktail from The Modern in NYC is a variation on the Americano.

Note: This cocktail calls for saffron-tinted Strega, an herbal liqueur produced in Benevento, Italy (for which this cocktail is named.)

The Modern's Beneventano Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces Aperol
  • 1 1/2 ounces Zucca Rabarbaro Amaro
  • 1/2 ounce Strega
  • Splash soda
  • Garnish: Orange wedge

Directions

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add Aperol, Zucca, and Strega, stir well. Fill a rocks glass with ice. Strain Aperol mixture into serving glass, top with soda, and garnish with orange wedge.
